Post-event followupMany thanks to everyone who was able to join the milonga! Thanks for the support for our local tango artists! Thanks for the support for Wildlife Critter Care Society! We raised: $300 and a carload of supplies for Critter Care - our local wild life emergency and rehabilitation people. We have had great feedback from many attendees about the tango duo Mala Yunta. It was exciting to present Sarah Kwok and Martin Nemcovsky for the debut performance. We hope to see then soon and to dance to their music again. |

Critter Care Wildlife Society provides short and long-term care and rehabilitation to mammal species native to British Columbia. Through public education, they help prevent the suffering of injured and orphaned wildlife.

Sarah Kwok
Born and raised in Vancouver, Sarah began her musical training at an early age and went on to attend the University of Toronto, where her teachers were Steven Dann and Scott. St. John. She is currently a DMA candidate at the University of British Columbia, studying with David Harding. An active freelancer, she performs with the Vancouver Symphony, the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, the Vancouver Island Symphony and the Okanagan Symphony, and has played in concerts presented by the Chutzpah Festival, Sonic Boom Festival, and Music on Main. Sarah has also appeared with Turning Point Ensemble, Erato Ensemble and the Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra, and participated in the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute, the St. Lawrence String Quartet Chamber Music Seminar and Tango for Musicians at Reed College. She is a member of the Elysian trio (viola, flute, and harp) as well as Orquesta Paraguas, an Argentine tango ensemble, and teaches at the St. James Music Academy.

Martin Nemcovsky
was born and raised in Rosario, Argentina, where he graduated as a music teacher. He also has a Bachelor degree in Jazz Studies from Capilano University and a Bachelor degree in education from U.B.C. He has played in numerous Jazz festivals in Argentina, tour Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Canada, studied composition in Cuba for a year and participated of the Habanna International Jazz Festival. Added to this he participated in the passion for tango festival in Victoria several times with the one in which he played with Adrian Iaies, the most prominent pianist. He recorded two CDs as part of the guitar duet “Jazz friends” and one as part of the duet “Cantango”. Another highlight in his career is the participation in the Summit of tango with Piazzolla’s guitar player Cacho Tirao. Martin work as a composer and guitar player had been praised by musicians like Cesar Franov (Dino Saluzzi bass player) with comments such as: “he moves to unpredictable places with subtlety…” He has made arrangements for choir of Piazzolla’s music that was performed by two ensembles of Capilano University in public performances. Acclaimed Argentinean guitar player Victor Pellegrini had commissioned works of him to perform internationally.
