Add your name to the list of leaders/followers looking for partners. Partnering for performance requires cooperation, commitment, respect and trust. Dancers are encouraged to meet and dance together at a practica to determine compatibility before registering.

Argentine Tango Heats Workshop - registrations in progress

In a heat, multiple couples dance at the same time. Couples may improvise, dance a semi- or fully-choreographed routine or a combination of both. Couples will not know which song will be played, but will familiarize with a list of possible songs during the workshop. In this Heats Workshop, couples will learn the structure of an Argentine tango heat, familiarize with song choices, refine floor craft, polish moves, and build confidence.
  • Time commitment: (4 lessons) – Tuesdays & Fridays, Nov 14, 17, 21, Nov 24 @ 8:30 pm
  • Register early. Limited space available.
Requirements:
  • For intermediate and higher Argentine tango skill level, familiar with fundamentals.
  • Couples should be able to dance their own Argentine tango choreography and/or improvise with moves they already know for a 2-3-minute song. Private lessons are recommended for couples wanting assistance with choreography or moves for a heat. Argentine tango moves are not taught in this workshop.
  • Finding a dance partner. Partner changes are not part of this workshop.
  • Time commitment: weekly lesson plus self-directed practice time solo and/or with partner.

Argentine Tango Showcase Solos

In a solo, one couple dances a fully- or semi-choreographed or improvised Argentine tango to a pre-determined song. Solos are created through private lessons and are customized to the dancer(s) interests and abilities. Music may be traditional or alternative tango, vals or milonga. Styles range from ultra-traditional tango social dance to tango fantasia, and everything in between.
Requirements:
  • For intermediate and higher Argentine tango skill level, familiar with fundamentals.
  • Finding a dance partner. Pro-Am option may be possible.
  • Time commitment: The number of private lessons recommended is determined on a case-by-case basis. Self-directed practice time solo and/or with partner is beneficial.

Argentine Tango Formation Workshop - Thursdays Sep 7 - Nov 23 - FULL

In a formation, multiple couples dance a semi- or fully-choreographed Argentine tango routine to a pre-determined song. In this Workshop, couples will learn an Argentine tango show routine also called tango fantasia. The routine will include fundamental elements plus select fantasia elements such as boleos, enganches, ganchos, carpas, volcadas, cadenas, sacadas, planeos, adornos, etc.
  • Thursday evenings, September 7 – November 23 (12 weeks)
  • Deadline to register – Thursday, August 31
Learning tango through a formation routine empowers both leaders and followers by:
  • building coordination through repetition of moves and elements
  • increasing stylizations through repetition
  • fostering partnerships and connections
  • refining floor craft
  • strengthening musical awareness and interpretations
  • differentiating between social dance and performance dance
  • developing overall confidence
Requirements:
